SIOUX CENTER, IA: The Vikings capped off their weekend with another double header sweep over a GPAC opponent. The Vikings were able to best the Dordt Defenders with a pair of shutouts with wins of 3-0 and 7-0. This pair of wins improve the Vikings to 4-1 to start the season.
Game 1: The first matchup between the two teams was a low scoring affair as the Vikings wouldn't push any runs across the plate until the 5
th inning when
Olivia Harmon laid down a bunt that helped bring in the first run of the game.
Allyx Lee would also lay down a sac bunt that would bring around a pair of Vikings base runners to cap off a 3 run inning.
Jessica Walljasper would pick up the win with 5 innings pitched before
Madi Huisman would enter the game to pick up her first save of the season in the 3-0 win.
Game 2: The Vikings didn't waste any time putting runs on the board in the 2
nd game of the double header as
Mackenzie Meister singled to right center to score the first run in the first inning.
Kylie Merical was able to follow that up with a double down the left field line scoring two more Viking runs.
Rachel Anderson picked up her first RBI of the game in the next inning as she helped stretch the early lead for the Vikings to 4-0. The Vikings would have some come alive again in the 6
th inning as
Olivia Kyes tripled to right field scoring a run before Anderson singled to left field bringing in Kyes for the final run of the game. Huisman would stay on the mound after game one as she picked up her second win of the season in 4 innings of work before
Lani Gannon finished the last three innings of play with 4 strikeouts to hold onto the 7-0 win.
GAME NOTES:
- Vikings collected 11 strikeouts over two games and only struck out twice
- Only surrendered 5 hits through 2 games.
- Anderson led the way with 3 hits and 2 RBIs over the double header
- Vikings were only able to steal one base over the series
