Vikings Defeat the Bobcats in Four-Set Road Win

PERU, NEBRASKA — Grand View Women's Volleyball traveled to Nebraska on Tuesday night to face Peru State College in a Heart of America Conference match. After a rocky start, the Vikings managed to secure a four-set victory, defeating the Bobcats for the second time this season. Set scores were 28-30, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-16.

The initial set featured a battle between the two teams, ultimately ending in a 28-30 loss for the Vikings. Despite struggling offensively, Grand View capitalized on several errors from the Bobcats to remain competitive. Sydney Beasley and Ellie Dougherty each recorded three kills in the set, but the Vikings fell short in the opening frame.

In the second set, Grand View found themselves trailing early once again. However, they fought back from an early deficit to take the lead at 10-9. The team showcased a significant offensive improvement, posting a hitting percentage of .414. Sydney Beasley remained a key contributor, tallying five of the team's fifteen total kills in the set. The Vikings maintained their early lead throughout, winning the second set 25-16.

As the third set began, Grand View struggled to uphold control early on, leading to a back-and-forth dynamic that featured nine ties in the score. Trailing 18-19, the Vikings shifted momentum with four consecutive kills from Ellie Dougherty, Kaylee Stadler, Brooklyn Roder, and Reese Casey. Following a six-point scoring run, Grand View sealed the set with a final kill from Brooklyn Roder, finishing 25-22. 

The fourth and final set displayed an early battle from both teams, but Grand View's balanced offense and limited errors set them up for success. The Vikings pulled ahead to mid-way through the set with an eight-to-one run that piled the momentum towards the Vikings. Brooklyn Roder added three kills to her match total and the team served up three aces to contribute to the final set score of 25-16, and a match win for the Vikings.

This weekend the Vikings will travel to Bellevue, Nebraska, to compete in Bellevue University's Marvel Classic. On Friday, they will face Columbia College at 2:00 p.m., followed by two matches on Saturday against Carroll College at 9:00 a.m. and Dakota State University at 4:30 p.m.
