Vikings Defeat the Statesmen for Third Straight Home Sweep

DES MOINES, IOWA — Grand View women's volleyball hosted the Statesmen of William Penn University on Tuesday evening in a Heart of America Conference matchup. The Vikings displayed their dominance, taking all three sets and marking their third home sweep of the season. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21. The team maintained its perfect record at home, not dropping a single set in the Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center.

The opening set saw both teams battle for control, but a crucial kill from Brooklyn Roder allowed Grand View to take the lead. The Vikings capitalized on a series of errors from the Statesmen, building a six-point cushion midway through the set. Jenna Bentz played a crucial role, delivering eleven assists that energized Grand View's offense. William Penn fought back, but the Vikings' lead allowed them to secure the first set 25-19.

The second set again featured a back-and-forth dynamic, but the Vikings maintained their composure and pushed ahead to take the lead mid-set. Sydney Beasley and Brooklyn Roder emerged as key players, each putting down three kills for the Vikings. William Penn's failed attempt at a late run resulted in another 25-19 set win for the Vikings.

Entering the third set, Grand View found themselves trailing early, but Sydney Beasley set the tone with two consecutive kills that ignited a rally. This was followed by back-to-back aces from Anna Takushi. Despite the surge, William Penn regained the lead, stretching their advantage to six points. The Vikings wouldn't back down, mounting a determined effort to close the gap. A late timeout from William Penn aimed to disrupt their momentum but couldn't stop Maiah Kalima-Izumi from delivering her second consecutive ace of the night. In the set's final moments, Ellie Dougherty recorded two critical kills propelling Grand View to their 25-21 set victory.
