HOW IT HAPPENED: The Statesmen connected on their first basket of the game igniting a flurry of toilet paper down on the court resulting in a technical foul on the Statesmen leading to a
Connor Robertson made free throw. Robertson would hit a three pointer soon afterwards to give the Vikings their first lead of the game. The teams would trade baskets in the early going but it was a relatively low scoring affair as the Statesmen led 16-15 at the media timeout. The Vikings defense would step up as they picked up a pair of steals out of the media timeout with
Ayden Foster and
Markell Hood eventually leading to a Cecil Lee Dunk. This would help spark a Viking run eventually spreading their lead out to 7 points, 29-22 with under 4 minutes to play. Statesmen would cut into the lead slightly before
Jacob Koontz would connect on a layup with 17 seconds left in the first half to help send the Vikings to the locker room up 35-31.
The second half started with the Vikings back on the attack as they picked up a basket and pair of free throws in the first 2 minutes of play. The Vikings would keep playing tough as they soon grew their lead to ten points before the Statesmen crawled their way back into the game and were only down 3, 47-44. With Under 11 minutes to play
Kino Thompson stole the ball and slammed home a dunk and this is where the games intensity was turned up as he picked up a technical foul at the end of the play. The teams would trade baskets for several minutes before the Statesmen would take a 2 point lead with 2:30 left in the game. The Statesmen would call a timeout to draw up another play to attempt to go up 4 points but Lee would collect a major block leading to a Kino jumpshot tying the game. With under 20 seconds to go the Vikings would get 2 shots at the win before the Vikings took their final timeout to draw up one final play with 4 seconds to play. Out of the timeout the Vikings executed perfectly as
Noah Hart hit a three from the left wing to send the Vikings home with a 77-74 win.
