Vikings Stumble in the Second Half Against the Eagles

DES MOINES, IA- The Grand View Vikings looked to pick up one more win to cap off finals week and ride a winning streak into Christmas break. The Central Methodist Eagles were able to put a stop to that as they defeated the Vikings 100-85 Saturday Night moving the Vikings to 5-7 on the year. Jaxson Young lead the Vikings in the game with 31 points on 70% shooting from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Young had the offense rolling in the early going as he was responsible for 9 of the Vikings first 11 points. Markell Hood got in on the action as he added on a pair of layups in the first 7 minutes of play. Cecil Lee III was able to make an immediate impact off of the bench as he picked up a handful of buckets and a block after the first half media timeout. The Eagles would look to start pulling away before Lee III would take the momentum back as he slammed home a dunk assisted by Jacob Koontz in the final 70 seconds of play. The Vikings would hit 3-4 free throws in the final minute of the half to cut the lead down to 7, 49-42. Young and Hood both in double figures in the first half, 16 and 12 respectively.

The second half started out with an Eagles run that saw their lead grow to 11 points before Conner Roberston was able to connect on a 3 pointer 3 minutes into the half followed by a Viking timeout to regroup. Young came out firing after the timeout as he picked up a pair of layups and a block to keep the Vikings close. The Eagles would have an answer for the Vikings tho as they were able to built their lead back up to 19 points before the Vikings bench was able to bring a spark cutting the lead down to 8 behind a buckets from Ayden Foster and Kino Thompson. After the second half media timeout the Vikings would make one last push but were never able to string together enough stops down the stretch as they fell to the Eagles 100-85.
