Vikings Post First Sweep on the Road Versus the Pride

DUBUQUE, IA - The Vikings secured their first road sweep of the 2023 season in Dubuque, IA, as they squared off with the Clarke University Pride. The Vikings would lead with a balanced attack to ensure the sweep with scores 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20.

The lone Viking in double-digit kills was Helenie Filipe, with ten at .121%. The rest of the offensive attack would come from Sydney Beasley, who pulled in 7 kills, and Ellie Dougherty and Kylie Hoben added five kills to round out the balanced attack.

Chevy Wagner Chun would lead things on the defensive end with her 12 digs. Filipe and Beasley would both amount to two blocks.

The Vikings would get out to a strong start in the first set, the team was able to jump out to a strong start and would further their lead to 20-14 after a kill from Vanessa Romo. A trio of errors from the Pride would allow the Vikings to coast in the first set 25-20.

The second set was complete of errors from both sides, but the Vikings could jump out to an early 6-1 lead, which ultimately was the deciding factor in the second-set victory. Brooklyn Roder would push the Vikings one set away from their first sweep on the road of the season after her kill.

The Pride would get out to an early lead in the 3rd set, with four unanswered kills. A kill from Sydney Beasley would allow the Vikings to shift some momentum, but the Pride kept pulling away. A kill from Kylie Hoben would give the Vikings their first lead of the 3rd set, 17-16. A Helenie Filipe kill would continue to inch the Vikings away from the pride, and the door would be shut after a block from Hoben and Filipe to secure the sweep.
